They Need What They Deny

Introduction

There are so many people out there that consistently deny something to be true. They constantly believe the opposite when many proofs show the contrary.

They Need Baptism to be Essential

For example, certain denominational groups believe that baptism isn’t essential for salvation. They say, “it’s an outward sign of an inward grace.”

And yet, Jesus said, “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned” (Mark 16:16). The apostle Peter affirms, Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). And the apostle Paul states, For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ (Galatians 3:26-27).

These groups need baptism to be for the remission of sins otherwise, they can’t continue to deny it. They would be ‘in the know’ like everyone else. It would take away their “uniqueness” from others. Even though, that so-called uniqueness permeates through all of the denominations like a bad odor.

They Need the Earth to be Round

Another good example of this is the group known as the Flat earth society. Officially established in the mid-1950s, these are people who still affirm, even today (21st century) that the earth is flat.

One of the more amusing memes I found online is this one from that society…

This, of course, completely disproves their own beliefs. However, these people need the earth to actually be round otherwise, their organization would be non-existent.

If everyone believed that the earth was flat, then there wouldn’t be a need for a society as it would be common knowledge. Therefore, without admitting it, they have to know that the earth is, indeed, a sphere so that they can continue their society that argues against it.

Does the bible state that the world is flat?

Doesn’t the Bible say the earth is a circle as opposed to a sphere?

They Need God to Exist

There was a story I once read online that went something like this:

A college professor decided to prove, once and for all, that God didn’t exist. He stated to his class, “Can you see God? No! Can you touch God? No! If you can see or touch God, then God doesn’t exist.”

A student gave this reply, “Can we see the professor’s mind? No! Can we touch the professor’s mind? No! If we can see or touch the professor’s mind, then his mind doesn’t exist!”

While the movement of atheists, as an organization, didn’t begin until the 1960s, the word is much older than that. I found this definition online…

The first records of the word atheist come from around 1570. It comes from the Greek áthe(os), meaning “godless.” In atheist, the beginning part a- means “without” and the main root is based on a word meaning “god” (the words theology and theist are based on the same root).

The scriptures speak of the non-believer, The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good (Psalms 14:1; 53:1).

You can see, plainly, that there is intelligent design behind the creation of Earth. It’s positioned a perfect distance from the sun so that people don’t totally freeze or burn up, the seasons come and go in the same order every year, it spins on its axis so that you have day and night consistently, it circles the sun the same speed every year so that you have the same number of days each year (with an extra day every 4 years). None of this is possible without a creator involved.

The bottom line for atheists is that if God really didn’t exist, then there would be no atheists at all; it would be common knowledge all over.

Conclusion

As you can see, you can’t simply assume something to be true or false based on what someone else tells you or even shows you. Do the research for yourself and come to your own conclusions. The louder someone yells that their way is the right way, should make you all the more cautious.

  1. Atheists have been around for a very long time. And we don’t need your god, or any of the gods that humans have invented to worship.

Your argument fails in that atheists don’t need a god to exist to be atheists. We simply conclude that there is no particular god or gods. That being the case, you are an atheist too, when it comes to gods not your own. Your argument would mean that you need those gods to exist to be what you are. I suspect you would disagree.

BTW, your “story” is a typical false bit of nonsense, and it fails since the supposed student’s reply “A student gave this reply, “Can we see the professor’s mind? No! Can we touch the professor’s mind? No! If we can see or touch the professor’s mind, then his mind doesn’t exist!”” Doesn’t work very well since the mind is generated by the brain and we can certainly seek and touch that.

Your god has no evidence for it nor the events it supposedly cause. All you have are claims about it and those events which need to be supported by evidence.

  2. I would go so far as to say that minds do not exist. It depends on what you mean by “exist.” Zeus is a real mythological figure, so in that sense Zeus exists, but not in the way that anyone would worship. A mind is a phenomenon, something that happens, not an object. If you think about a chemical process like oxidation, “oxidation” is not a thing that exists, it’s describing something that happens.
