The Bible is for Daily Use

The Monday Bible Memes return but on a more infrequent basis. These will be posted as the need arises. With that in mind, here’s today’s meme…

Last Thursday’s article, How do you Approach the Bible? talks of the different ways bible regard the bible, reading vs. studying. In the introduction, I mentioned those who utilize the bible as a decoration or a conversation piece on their coffee table.

There is another type of person and that is the one who pulls out the bible for special occasions. These “occasions” are usually the holidays of Christmas and Easter. To the average believer, these are the most “religious” days of the year. This is why, in the denominational world you have what are known as “C&E Christians”. They are the people who show up at the church building on Christmas and then, again, on Easter.

As the meme suggests, the bible is to be used as bread for daily use. Not too long after the miracle of the loaves and fish, the people followed Jesus looking for their next meal and, instead of food, He told them to look for the food that doesn’t perish.

Jesus said, “I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.” (John 6:51)

What He was saying is to follow Him and feed on the word and not to focus on the temporary food. This is what separated the true disciples from the rest of the group (John 6:66).

Conclusion

Instead of trotting the bible out for special use, take advantage of it on a daily basis. It will help you grow spiritually and feed your hunger and thirst for righteousness (Mt. 5:6).
