Complaints Vs. Gratitude

It’s Monday and time for another Bible Meme. This will be the last one for a while. Articles will return to Mondays starting August 5th.

Looking at today’s meme, we see the prayer department with two windows: one for complaints and one for gratitude. A line of people is in front of complaints and the window for gratitude is empty.

More people go to God in prayer when things aren’t working out for them more than showing gratitude and thanksgiving for what is currently going on in their lives. If they don’t receive a raise or promotion, they complain to God; if a family member dies or becomes terminally ill, they complain to God; etc.

More people should be grateful for what they currently have: You didn’t get the promotion, but you’re still employed. Most people in the country today don’t even want to work. They’d rather stay home and have the government care for them. As the apostle Paul wrote, For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. (2 Thessalonians 3:10). All Christians should be gainfully employed.

In regard to the family members, all life comes to an end. Be grateful for the time you spent with that individual. Share memories and special moments with other family members; keep them alive through stories and photos. As the psalmist wrote, They will perish, but You will endure; Yes, they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You will change them, And they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will have no end. (Psalms 102:26-27)

There are many things in your life that you should be grateful for. Make sure you let God know this and show your appreciation for what God has provided for you on a daily basis.
