On Monday, we looked at the third thing that God hated from Proverbs 6:17, “Hands that shed innocent blood.” While I wanted to include abortion in the article, I knew it would be too long and need its own article. Below, is an article I wrote, in 2019, and have update it as well.

Introduction
One of the hot topics, in the social media world, is abortion. Since the 1973 court case of Roe vs. Wade, women have been given the right to abort their unborn children. In 2019, women were given permission to terminate children even after delivery.
However, in June 2022, the case of Roe vs. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court of the United States in a 6-3 decision. Will this end the turmoil? Most likely not as women will continue to have it done regardless.
Reasons for abortion include: unborn children are not human but merely unviable tissue mass of the woman, birth defects found in the children will cause hardship on the child and the parents, and the woman doesn’t want the responsibility of a child.
Does the scripture discuss the subject of abortion? While the word, abortion, is not found in scriptures, there are passages with enough relatable information to get an understanding of the subject.
The apostle Peter writes in 2 Peter 1:3, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue This means that however new you think a subject might be, God has something to say about it in His Holy Word.
What did the Old Law Say?
The Law of Moses had this subject account for. Let’s look at Exodus 21:22-23, When men strive together, and hurt a woman with child, so that there is a miscarriage, and yet no harm follows, the one who hurt her shall be fined, according as the woman’s husband shall lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. If any harm follows, then you shall give life for life. (RSV) Here we see according to the Old Law that if an unborn child is caused to be a miscarriage (or born prematurely in some translations); to where the child’s life is forfeit, the one who cause the miscarriage would stand before a judge on the matter. His life might be forfeited also. Imagine if such a law was in place today.
My Body, My Choice?

You’ve heard women announce the phrase, “My Body, My Choice” as a war cry to validate abortion. There are those who believe that if an anti-abortion law is put in place, then their choice is being stifled.
No one is taking away your rights to do with your body what you will. God made us all free-will agents to live and to think how we desire. The unborn child is a separate and therefore is a living and free-will agent as well. The child, then, is not your body to do with what you choose.
An example of this is found in Jeremiah 1:4-5, Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Here God calls Jeremiah to be His representative before he was completely formed in the womb. If this is the case, then no one has a right to refer to the unborn as an unviable tissue mass.
21st Century Molech Worship
Late Term and Live birth abortions are, unfortunately, something that women have chosen recently as well. Imagine carrying a child in your body for nine months only to have it forcibly removed or killed after it is separated from the womb.
Yes, the bible talks about this kind of destruction. The phrase “Pass through the fire” is mentioned 11 times in OT. It is generally a pagan practice to sacrifice a firstborn child to the god, Molech. A metal statue is heated until the outstretched arms glow white hot, then the infant is placed onto the arms as a token to that god.
This was a very popular practice in Jeremiah’s and Ezekiel’s time (Jer. 32:35; Ezek. 16:21; 20:26, 31). Given that the people of Judah had turned their backs on God, the Father, and turned to the foreign gods of the nations around them.
However, the Law of Moses expressly forbid any such event from occurring. In Leviticus 18:21 it says, “And you shall not let any of your descendants pass through the fire to Molech, nor shall you profane the name of your God: I am the LORD.” Had the children of Israel heeded this warning; and passed it down from generation to generation, it wouldn’t have occurred.
It is Murder!
Just because the law of the land approves and allows such abominable behavior to commence, doesn’t mean that God approves of it. Here’s what God as to say about it in Proverbs 6:16-19, These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren. Contrary to what some believe, an unborn child is still an innocent life.
By destroying that innocent life, you are considered a murderer in the eyes of God. In Revelation 21:8 it is said of these and others, “But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Conclusion
In Psalms 127:3-4 it is written, Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. And again in Jas. 1:17, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
Children are gifts from God! How can we decide that they are not worth living and destroy them before they’ve even had a chance at life? Make sure you’re ready to give an account of your actions on the day of judgment (2 Cor. 5:10). It’s not too late to change your life around now while you still live. Live for God and Jesus today!
