Undeniable Facts from Genesis
Introduction
When I got my annual flu shot, last year, I filled out the necessary paperwork. It looked like your traditional, run-of-the-mill, paperwork until I got to the request for your sex. In that section, it stated, “Sex assigned at birth”.
Had I been living under a rock for the last few decades, this would appear extremely bizarre to me. But, unfortunately, that’s not the case. Furthermore, my sex was not assigned to me, I was created by God as a male.
In scripture, Jeremiah wrote, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…” (Jeremiah 1:5) Even though, in context, God was speaking of the prophet, himself, I believe that God knows each and every one of us before we were formed in the womb; including our gender.
There are Only TWO Genders

For the last 15 years or more, the idea of multiple genders has suddenly become a thing. Forget that fact that prior to the present time, we had only two genders, it is now no longer that simple.
However, those who study the bible know, for a fact, that there are, and always will be only two genders. Turning to Genesis 1 we read, Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. (Genesis 1:26-27)
Look closely at verse 27, Moses writes the exact same statement, but a little different each time, and it drives home the undeniable truth that there are only two genders. Here’s the verse broken up in the three statements for better clarification…
So God created man in His own image;
in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.

Further Proof
You would think that reading verse 27 would be enough proof to show that there are, and always will be, only two genders. But here’s a statement from brother Mike Willis on Genesis 1:27 from his commentary on Genesis…
Male and female designate the only gender options that the Bible acknowledges. Those who wish to affirm that gender is a matter of sexual preference may begin with the assumption that they had no creator and are the product of random combination of atomic matter, that gender is something that one is at liberty to alter (just as one alters the color of one’s hair), or that their creator made a mistake when he formed them in the womb. Rather than appreciating the blessing God has given them in making them either male or female, they resent it and wish to have what is not theirs by divine creation. One’s gender is determined by chromosomes. One can no more chose his gender than he can chose one’s race. (Truth Commentary, Genesis 1-25, pg. 151)
What about Nonbinary?
Although we’ve already established that there are, indeed, only two genders, I want to give a little attention to the so-called third option. Grant it, there are supposedly dozens of gender options; all of which are nonsensical, I do want to mention the idea of nonbinary.
The definition, from Dictionary.com, is noting or relating to a gender identity that does not fit into the binary male/female. division. Although this is the definition found, from what I’ve learned is that people who call themselves nonbinary are neither male nor female; choosing the pronouns of they/them.
A clever individual might go to the scriptures and declare that nonbinary is mentioned when they get to Galatians 3:28 which states, There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28). From this, they would say, “See! Nonbinary is part of God’s plan! ‘Neither male nor female’.”
However, if you look at the context of what the apostle Paul is writing about, you need to back up two verses to get the whole idea, For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:26-28).
Having said that, though, if you’re going to cite a bible verse to confirm nonbinary, then you’ll also have to confirm that God stated that there are only two genders as listed in Gen. 1:27. Thereby, it cancels your own argument.
But, here, the context has to do with a spiritual nature and not a fleshly one. It means that everyone, who is in the body of Christ, are equals regardless of ethnicity, social status, and gender. Of course, those who are in the body of Christ were baptized into Christ (Mk. 16:16; Acts 2:38, Gal. 3:27).
Conclusion
When one accepts the truth, as found in the scriptures, there is absolutely no need for confusion concerning gender. God made you the person that you are, male or female, and He desires that you utilize yourself; to the best of your ability, to serve Him in that capacity as shown in scripture.
